WOLF School is proud to be serving up new programs for youth in 2020. Beginning in Summer 2020, WOLF School educators created several new virtual programming opportunities for students and summer campers. Allowing kids of all ages to participate in online "virtual" summer camp sessions, kids learned from a professional artist how to draw animals and birds, while other campers participated in ongoing video nature programs, and others played role playing adventure games.

Several groups of campers continued their adventures all summer and into the fall playing online Dungeons and Dragons adventures while social distancing. One young camper commented, "WOLF Camp has been my entire social life this summer, and it's been great!" His parent agreed, and noted that the socializing aspect of the guided adventure was invaluable as kids are just lonely without in-person school and friends around.

While it has never been WOLF School's first priority to teach nature via video, the online programs offered through WOLF School have allowed kids who are stuck at home due to the shelter in place to socialize, have fun, and enjoy imaginative play and nature/science learning. Kids are still connecting with the web of life and with each other, and the WOLF School Mission is happening: Building respect, appreciation, and stewardship within the web of life.

WOLF School continues to take the phrase "outdoor education" seriously. Even for traditional classroom school.

Beginning in August, WOLF School began offering the WOLF Nature Day Camp and Outdoor Learning Center at Camp Monte Toyon in Aptos in response to families who needed help for their kids doing distance learning at home. Offering small group instruction and support for students doing distance learning in the mornings, and outdoor education and recreation activities in the afternoons, our small group programs are helping keep kids happy, healthy, and active as they study and play in the redwoods.

Programs are continuing into the winter and kids and their families are choosing to continue coming to WOLF School for distance learning support, hiking, active games, and science education even with the weather getting cooler and some foggy days under the redwoods. WOLF School will also continue to offer outdoor science school, science camp, summer camp, and day camp as soon as state and local authorities determine it is safe and possible. For now, WOLF School staff are glad to hear the laughter of children at camp, and see them working on their laptops under the redwoods as we continue helping support our local communities.
