We offer many activities to enhance your stay as Highlands provides something for everyone at all skill levels. Here are the top 10 activities to enjoy during your visit:

Hiking Trails

With so much hiking, you’ll never run out of beautiful vistas to explore. The creek offers gorgeous and healing sounds of serenity. Use this trail guide to find hikes we recommend. You can also visit Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park, which are very close.

  • Hidden Room Trail
This trail is a must-see! While we won’t spoil the surprise, we can assure you that the journey is just as rewarding as the destination. With a one-mile round-trip, it’s an ideal option for a short and memorable adventure.

  • Meadow Loop
This peaceful and restorative half-mile meandering trail offers a gentle stroll. The Meadow Loop is perfect for a peaceful escape. It allows you to reconnect with nature and unwind in the quiet beauty of the landscape.

Canoeing and Paddleboats

Canoeing and paddleboating through the calm waters of the Highlands pond are a great way to connect to nature peacefully and are suitable for various skill levels.

The pond is located at the foot of the retreat center, surrounded by stunning views. Tall mountain tops are in the distance, and rock croppings are close by. Enjoying time in the pond is a great way to settle into the present moment and take in the natural beauty surrounding you.

Rock Climbing

Challenge yourself with rock climbing! Whether you're a novice or an experienced climber, the facility provides the rocks, and KMAC Climbing School delivers the equipment and expert guidance. KMAC's highly skilled teachers are experts in their field and will provide you with the highest quality experience. Contact KMAC directly at 970-586-5990.

Low Challenge Course

Participating in a low ropes challenge course can be thrilling! It’s all about getting out there, playing, and enjoying this team-building activity. We provide you with training, and then you run it yourself.  Designed to promote trust, communication, and collaboration among group members, this activity is ideal for groups looking to strengthen their dynamics in a supportive environment. Challenge courses offer growth-oriented opportunities:

  • Commitment to performing where there is uncertainty of results is a healthy decision-making process.

  • Proving to oneself that a seemingly insurmountable problem can be overcome is enlightening and satisfying.

  • Evidence shows that completing a demanding, fabricated problem has a significantly higher positive carryover than overcoming everyday problems.

Archery

Archery is a sport, practice, or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows. The word comes from the Latin arcus, meaning bow. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat. In modern times, it is mainly a competitive sport and recreational activity. We have a beautiful fenced-in archery area.

Labyrinth Walks

Walk the on-site labyrinth to experience tranquility. This meditative path offers a space for reflection and mindfulness, allowing guests to unwind and connect with their inner selves.

The labyrinth is located just outside the Retreat Center Lodge, where delicious meals are prepared and served, so walking the labyrinth before or after a meal is easily accessible.

Gaga Ball Court

Engage in a lively game of Gaga Ball, a fast-paced, high-energy sport played in an octagonal pit. It's a fun way to get moving and enjoy friendly competition.

Sand Volleyball

Enjoy a game of sand volleyball on the center's court. This activity is perfect for groups looking to compete in a friendly competition while soaking up the sun.

Campfire Circles

Gather around the campfire circles in the evening to share stories, sing songs, or enjoy the warmth and camaraderie. It's an excellent way to conclude a day of activities and bond with fellow participants.

Indoor Games

For those who prefer indoor activities, the Activity Center offers a variety of games, including air hockey, ping-pong, board games, and puzzles. These options provide entertainment and relaxation, especially during inclement weather.

Highlands Camp & Retreat Center provides a comprehensive range of activities that cater to diverse interests and promote both personal growth and group cohesion.
