Cape Cod Retreat Center Strives for Net Zero Waste

Cape Cod Retreat Center Continues to Offer Excellent Hospitality While Moving Towards Net Zero Sustainability.

Craigville Retreat Center announces new steps being taken to achieve their goal of having a net zero environmental impact by 2050.

The retreat center rents to groups ranging in size from 2 to up to 160 people and sits atop a bluff overlooking the salt marsh of Nantucket Sound and Red Lily Pond. With so much wildlife to cherish, last spring two local organizations announced a goal of becoming 100% sustainable to support the natural waters, wildlife and community.

Craigville Retreat Center was recently tasked with initiating recycling and water management efforts. In response, the retreat center is expected to have recycle bins on-site by mid-November to assist with waste which mostly comes from the kitchens.

In addition to the recycle bins, Site Director Matthew CastleMan is purchasing several bokashi and tumble composters. Bokashi is a fermenting composter which is able to compost meat, dairy, and all food you wouldn't put in a standard composter. The tumble composters speed the process of converting kitchen and yard waste into usable compost. Together, this will allow the kitchen to compost 100% of food waste. These initiatives will significantly lessen the retreat centers environmental impact helping Craigville Retreat Center move towards our net zero goals.

With five different types of lodging options at Craigville Retreat Center, the facility caters to all types of groups who are looking for a beautiful setting to hold an events. Guests can feel good about spending their money staying at a place that is gentle on the environment and mindful of sustainability.

This season Craigville Retreat Center is focusing on promoting Sunset Lodge, a three-story building with an ocean view accommodating up to 45 guests with a screened porch, fireplace, large living room, coffee bar and stunning views. Other accommodations include, Craigville Manor, Craigville Inn, 5 Cottages and Marshview Apartments for 1 or 2 guests.
